As a Research Assistant Professor at the University of Hong Kong, my research in genetic epidemiology and translational science focuses on Mendelian randomization and multi-omics data analysis. My goal is to translate genetic discoveries into actionable insights for disease prevention and drug development. I am particularly excited about the opportunity to engage with Shaw Laureates Prof. Eva Nogales, Prof. Kazutoshi Mori, and Prof. Peter Walter. Their pioneering work in structural biology, unfolded protein response, and cellular regulation has significantly advanced Life Sciences and Medicine.
The alignment of their research on protein structures, gene transcription, and proteomics with my own efforts to prioritize therapeutic targets using human genetics and large-scale metabolomics presents a unique opportunity for collaboration and learning. Participating in this prestigious forum will provide an unparalleled platform for intellectual exchange through seminars, discussion groups, workshops, and poster sessions. I aim to share ideas, gain fresh perspectives, and explore collaborative opportunities that will enhance my research and career. Additionally, the experience of visiting cutting-edge scientific projects and engaging in cross-cultural activities in Hong Kong will further enrich my scientific journey and prepare me for future research and development challenges.

My research focuses on identifying determinants of major non-communicable diseases, demonstrating that genetically predicted testosterone is significantly associated with increased cardiovascular risk, particularly in men. This aligns with regulatory warnings about testosterone replacement therapy issued by bodies such as the U.S. FDA.
Building on this foundation, my recent work evaluates the safety, validation, and repositioning of drug targets using multi-omics data, as genetically supported targets are twice as likely to succeed in clinical trials. This addresses critical pharmacological needs, including repositioning drug targets like metformin for promoting healthy longevity, discovering novel targets for rare diseases, and evaluating drug safety in pediatric populations and pregnant women—groups often underrepresented in medical research due to ethical considerations.
I coordinate multi-omics data analysis in the UK Biobank and Hong Kong’s “Children of 1997” birth cohort, while actively collaborating with international genetic consortia, such as the Global Lipids Genetics Consortium and Early Growth Genetic Consortium. Additionally, I employ target trial emulation as a causal inference approach, leveraging multinational electronic health record data to provide real-world evidence on drug safety in pregnant women.
My work bridges gaps in understanding disease mechanisms and improve therapeutic strategies through precision medicine and innovative pharmacological interventions.
