Statement of Purpose to Join the Forum (max. 200 words)

As a second-year PhD student in Chemistry at the National University of Singapore, I am eager to participate in the Hong Kong Laureate Forum 2025. My research focuses on advancing chemical sciences, and I am passionate about contributing to global scientific discourse. My active involvement in various academic and leadership roles demonstrates my commitment to fostering scientific collaboration and personal growth. As the Student Life Secretary for the NUS Graduate Students' Society and Chairman of Indonesian Students Association of LPDP Awardee in Singapore, I have honed my organizational and communication skills. Additionally, my experience as a Liaison Officer at the Global Young Scientist Summit 2025 and my nomination to participate in the Nobel Laureate Meeting on Chemistry in Germany have broadened my perspective on international scientific cooperation. I am particularly interested in the Hongkong Laureate Forum's focus on interdisciplinary discussions and its potential to inspire innovative approaches to addressing global challenges. By participating in this prestigious event, I aim to contribute my unique perspectives, learn from leading experts, and forge valuable connections that will benefit my research and future career in chemistry.

Abstract of Research / Brief Description of Your Current Research Interest (max. 200 words)

My current research explores novel peroxydisulfate (PDS)-based advanced oxidation processes for wastewater remediation, focusing on synergistic activation by transition metal oxides and carbon allotropes. The research leverages the high redox potential and stability of sulfate radicals generated through catalytic PDS activation. A composite catalyst combining copper oxide (CuO) with pomegranate peel-derived nanobiochar was developed, integrating radical and non-radical degradation pathways. Experimental results demonstrated superior pollutant removal efficiency: the CuO-nanobiochar composite achieved 85.2% methyl orange and 97.3% rhodamine B degradation, significantly outperforming CuO, nanobiochar, and PDS alone. Material characterization by SEM-EDS revealed a mesoporous nanobiochar structure with homogeneously dispersed CuO, while spectroscopic analyses by using FTIR identified key functional groups and crystalline phases. The hybrid system's enhanced performance is attributed to increased active sites, improved charge separation, and complementary degradation mechanisms. This work advances sustainable water treatment technologies by utilizing agricultural waste and addressing persistent organic pollutants through energy-efficient, environmentally friendly methods.
