I was fortunate to be selected as one of the young scientists at HKLF 2023. I have learned a lot from experts in different disciplines, and have met many young researchers from different world-class institutions. It was an eye-opening experience. I visited many laboratories and universities to meet more investigators.

I learned there are a lot of research opportunities at HKLF in 2023. Without joining the HKLF, I may not have chosen to stay in Hong Kong after graduating with my PhD. I am now working as a post-doc fellow in the cardiology division at HKU, where I conduct clinical research. I wish to meet more potential collaborators at the HKLF to foster academic exchange. I wish to share my current research with other HKLF participants. My research interests are aortic aneurysm and pulmonary arterial hypertension.

As a local graduate from one of the top-rank universities in Hong Kong, I wish to serve as a Hong Kong representative to help others to build connections and to grow interest in working in Hong Kong. I am very looking forward to the HKLF 2025, and I sincerely wish that the selection committee can accept my application.

Title: Risk factors associated with all-cause mortality in patients with aortic aneurysm (AA)

Objective: To investigate the risk factors associated with all-cause mortality of AA in a retrospective study cohort.
Methods: Patients ≥ 18 years old, who were diagnosed with AA (ICD-9 code: 441) in the Hong Kong Queen Mary Hospital during the period of January 1, 2015 – December 31, 2023 were included. The primary outcome is all-cause mortality.
Results and Conclusion: Dyslipidemia, diabetes, atrial fibrillation, coronary artery disease and anemia are positively associated with all-cause mortality in patients with aortic aneurysm.

Title: Survival of patients with pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH): a retrospective observational study

Objective: To predict the life expectancy of patients with PAH using NYHA functional classification based on their symptoms
Methods: Patients who were diagnosed to have PAH (ICD-9 codes: 416.0 primary pulmonary hypertension and 37.21 right heart catheterization) in Hong Kong Queen Mary Hospital during the period of January 1, 2015 – December 31, 2024 were included. The primary outcome is all-cause mortality.
Result and Conclusion: Patients with PAH in lower functional class is positively associated with poorer survival outcome.
