Statement of Purpose to Join the Forum (max. 200 words)

As a young scientist dedicated to environmental remediation, I am eager to participate in the Hong Kong Laureate Forum 2025 to engage with world-renowned researchers and fellow emerging scientists. My academic and research pursuits focus on developing advanced catalytic materials for the degradation of organic pollutants, aiming to mitigate the environmental impact of industrial and agricultural waste. This forum presents a unique opportunity to exchange ideas, explore interdisciplinary collaborations, and gain insights into cutting-edge scientific breakthroughs in sustainability and environmental science.

With a strong background in analytical chemistry and nanomaterials, I have actively worked on single-atom nanozymes and other innovative catalytic systems for wastewater treatment. Attending the forum will allow me to refine my research approach by learning from distinguished laureates, enhancing my scientific problem-solving skills, and fostering collaborations that could drive impactful advancements in environmental remediation.

I am particularly inspired by the forum’s mission to nurture the next generation of scientists, and I am committed to contributing through my expertise and enthusiasm. I believe that this experience will not only deepen my knowledge but also empower me to develop sustainable solutions for global environmental challenges. I look forward to being part of this transformative scientific gathering.

Award(s) and/or Scientific Accomplishment(s) (if any) (max. 100 words)

I graduated with first class with an honors degree. Because of this accomplishment, I have been awarded the Medal of Excellence from the Egyptian Syndicate of Scientific Professions and the Golden Medal in Science Day at Ain-Shams University.
During my master's study, I participated in research projects that benefit humanity by providing novel optical sensors that can sensitively and quantitatively detect biomarkers in the human body and then offer early diagnosis of diseases. So far, several research papers have been published in prestigious journals, and our research group, including me, has been granted a patent.

Title: Single-Atom Nanozymes for Efficient Catalytic Degradation of Organic Pollutants

The emerging organic pollutants Such as antibiotics, personal self-care products, and organic dyes are very stable and pose a significant threat to ecosystems and human health. Conventional degradation techniques often suffer from inefficiencies and secondary pollution. Recently, single-atom nanozymes (SAzymes) have emerged as promising alternatives due to their enzyme-mimicking catalytic activity, high stability, and superior reactivity. My current research study explores the catalytic potential of SAzymes in the degradation of organic pollutants, emphasizing their role in advanced oxidation processes (AOPs).

The principle of AOps is to catalytically produce reactive oxygen species (ROS) such as hydroxyl, superoxide, and sulfate radicals by activation of inorganic reagents like hydrogen peroxide and peroxymonaosulfate, which further attack the organic pollutants and degrade them into water and carbon dioxide. In my study, single-atom catalysts with enzyme-mimicking activity are utilized to produce the ROS naturally by activation of the dissolved oxygen with zero inorganic reagents added. these techniques not only help in organic pollutant removal but also leave zero secondary contaminants in the environment ensuring sustainability goals which is one of the high-priority goals set by the United Nations (UN).
