As a dedicated researcher and healthcare professional, my mission to advance cancer care through innovative research began during my time as a Radiation Therapist. Witnessing patients suffer treatment-induced toxicities as distressing as the cancer itself, I dedicated myself to a research career focused on improving supportive care for cancer patients from both technological and humanistic perspectives.
Apart from working on research regarding the implementation of supportive care and adoption of self-care for cancer patients from a behavioural science perspective, I remain interested in understanding the fundamental mechanisms of cancer treatment toxicities. For instance, my PhD included a pilot animal study exploring the cellular effects of photobiomodulation therapy on radiation-induced joint damage. I believe that understanding the cellular responses to cancer treatment agents at a sub-cellular level, such as how radiation affects gene transcription or protein folding in the endoplasmic reticulum, will pave the way for developing interventions to minimize treatment toxicities.
The Hong Kong Laureate Forum is a golden opportunity to engage with cutting-edge research in life sciences and medicine. It will also enable me to connect with esteemed peers, furthering my research in advancing the management of cancer treatment toxicities, ultimately improving patient outcomes and survivorship.

Best Poster Award at the Scientific Symposium on Emergency Medicine 2023
Poster Title: Delving into the ‘KNOW-DO’ gap: Evaluation of willingness to perform bystander cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) with automated external defibrillator (AED) in Hong Kong community using the Theory of Planned Behaviour framework
Hong Kong College of Emergency Medicine
My research interests focus on enhancing patient outcomes and health behaviours in diverse settings, including supportive cancer care and cardiac arrest bystander resuscitation in the community. Currently, I am engaged in training in health psychology research, which further enhances my ability to address complex health issues.
I am actively contributing to research on unmet supportive care needs and stress under various traumatic life events, such as cancer. Drawing on my clinical experience in radiation oncology, I am working on the psychological effects of the cancer journey on patients and survivors, with the goal of promoting self-care and posttraumatic growth after treatment. Additionally, I am engaged in the investigation of secondary traumatic stress among healthcare professionals who are regularly exposed to patient trauma, aiming to identify effective coping mechanisms and support systems for frontline health workers.
In addition to these collaborative projects, I am currently developing a study proposal to investigate cognitive aspects of decision-making regarding bystander resuscitation among community members, which is crucial for enhancing emergency response outcomes and training strategies. Furthermore, I am interested in investigating the effectiveness of emerging treatment toxicity management modalities and their potential implementation and acceptance among patients and healthcare workers.
