As a medical technologist working in a clinical laboratory and a member of the TP53 Variant Curation Expert Panel (VCEP) from the National Institutes of Health (United States), I am honoured to apply for the Laureate Forum. My participation in this specialized panel has given me direct experience with developing and refining variant classification guidelines for one of the most clinically significant genes in cancer predisposition.
My primary goal at the Forum is to discuss the emerging ACMG/AMP/CAP/ClinGen standards for sequence variant classification—a framework that directly impacts my daily laboratory work and my contributions to the TP53 VCEP. The opportunity to engage with experts and scientists familiar with these guidelines would provide invaluable insights that I can implement in both my clinical practice and my panel work.
Beyond this specific interest, I seek to absorb the collective wisdom of Shaw Laureates and fellow scientists across the spectrum of life sciences and medicine. The forum presents a unique opportunity to understand emerging technologies and methodologies that may soon enter clinical practice.
I come to contribute my dual perspective from both the clinical laboratory and variant curation panel work, where theoretical advances meet practical implementation challenges. Thank you very much.
