There are several key purposes for me to participate in this forum: (1) conduct academic and social exchange with Laureates, scientists and young scientists of various disciplines, and mingle with them to establish research collaborations and friendship, with the aim of boosting up the technological innovation of Hong Kong; (2) acquire insights from the academic sharing of Shaw Laureates and learn from them in different perspectives, for enhancing my passion in conducting scientific research and equipping myself to become a passionate scientist and make contributions to serve the mankind and community; (3) understand the latest technological advancement and breakthroughs in different industries, and explore potential and opportunities to transform my academic knowledge into practical applications, or to synergize with industrial partners in developing new joint research collaborations and projects in the foreseeable future; (4) extend my personal research expertise to interdisciplinary projects and practical implementations in daily life, enrich my understanding of science to facilitate career development and STEM development within Hong Kong context. I am certain that joining this Forum will grant me vision, passion and wisdom in personal future research, joint projects among core members of the scientific community, and contributing to Hong Kong society in long run.

My current research includes Applied and Computational Mathematics, Data Analytics, Environmental Remote Sensing and Satellite Informatics, and I always attempt to connect these scientific areas with Smart and Sustainable City Development. My research projects focus on (1) conducting large-scale computational modeling to synergize datasets of different types and sources, followed by the utilization of numerical and scientific approaches for conducting spatial and temporal analyses; (2) developing and applying data analytic mechanisms and remote sensing algorithms to train, validate and retrieve desired attributes or parameters arising from different real-life applications. The approaches include the use of various machine learning kernels, image processing, numerical schemes, data assimilation and statistical methods, while optimization techniques are also essential in the process of fine-tuning parameters for identifying the best retrieval algorithm, especially for applications that connect with environmental disciplines; (3) extending the use of mathematical methods to smart and sustainable city development, public health studies and air quality assessments, with the aid of combining Mathematics, Science and Social Science. Furthermore, I also act as a member of two major international satellite and meteorological missions, namely the Geostationary Environmental Monitoring Spectrometer (GEMS) established by South Korea, and the CINDI-3 campaign developed by KNMI, Netherlands.
