The inaugural Hong Kong Laureate Forum was an eye-opening experience for me. Besides getting to know more about research in my undergraduate major area of Life Science, I was exposed to research and researchers in the other Forum fields of Astronomy, Medicine, and Mathematics. The Forum was an invaluable opportunity for me to learn from different fields, take inspiration from varied successful presentation styles of all the distinguished scientists present, and connect with different people in science. The positive experience fuels my confidence and interest in the 2025 HKLF.
In my current MSc program, I have slightly shifted my study major to Environmental Health & Safety. A highly interdisciplinary subject, I sense a pressing need to keep up with scientific progress, as well as keep my mind open to input and working styles from different fields. I intend to achieve this by attending the 2025 HKLF. Furthermore, I will search for employment related to my studies in Life Science and/or Environment after my graduation in July. Hence, I want to proactively participate in science events like the 2025 HKLF to network and keep in touch with progress, which will help enhance my competitiveness, resourcefulness, and innovation in my future job.

Targeted Taught Postgraduate Programmes Fellowships Scheme-- a financial support award to "attract meritorious local students to pursue further studies in priority areas conducive to the development of Hong Kong and to encourage universities to establish more innovative and multi-disciplinary programmes that are beneficial to society." (https://www.ugc.edu.hk/eng/ugc/activity/targeted_postgraduate_scheme.html). I was selected by my MSc program department for the Scheme before starting my MSc program, based on my then-demonstrated merit. 3 places for the Scheme were available in my cohort of my program. According to the Scheme, HKD 102,900 was subsidized out of my HKD 145,000 overall tuition.
