Statement of Purpose to Join the Forum (max. 200 words)

As a PhD candidate in Nursing Informatics at The Hong Kong Polytechnic University and a visiting scholar at Yale School of Nursing, I am devoted to leveraging technology to transform patient care. My research centers on AI-driven rehabilitation tools for stroke-related dysphagia and digital health interventions for chronic disease management. These initiatives integrate nursing science with VR, chatbot systems, and behavioral theories to enhance patient engagement and health outcomes.

The HK Laureate Forum presents a unique opportunity to connect with leading scientists and like-minded young researchers across disciplines. I am eager to engage in intellectual exchange, explore cross-disciplinary collaborations, and gain insights that will further inform my work in data-driven healthcare innovation. Attending the Forum would not only deepen my understanding of frontier science but also empower me to translate technological advancements into accessible, patient-centered care models.

By participating, I aim to represent the voice of healthcare researchers in the digital age and contribute to shaping the future of interdisciplinary science.

Abstract of Research / Brief Description of Your Current Research Interest (max. 200 words)

My current research focuses on developing and evaluating an AI-assisted rehabilitation system for post-stroke dysphagia. This condition, affecting over 50% of stroke survivors, significantly impairs quality of life and increases the risk of aspiration pneumonia and malnutrition. Traditional therapy often requires frequent hospital visits, which may limit accessibility and adherence.

To address these barriers, I have designed a game-based rehabilitation platform enabling patients to perform swallowing exercises independently. The system integrates real-time feedback, intelligent progress tracking, and remote communication with nurses, aiming to improve both clinical outcomes and user engagement. The intervention is being validated through a randomized controlled trial in mainland China.

My work adopts a nursing informatics perspective, combining clinical expertise with digital innovation to enhance patient-centered care. I am also exploring how behavioral and technology acceptance theories can guide the design and implementation of such systems to maximize usability and impact.

Through this research, I aim to contribute scalable, technology-driven solutions to support stroke recovery and promote equitable access to rehabilitation services in aging societies.
