As a master’s student currently conducting two research projects about the consumption of ultra-processed foods, I am excited to have the opportunity to participate in the prestigious Hong Kong Laureate Forum. The event brings together renowned scientists who will share valuable insights that will enrich our vision as young researchers.
Attending the forum is not only a unique opportunity to interact with experienced scientists, but also to connect with young researchers with different backgrounds and learn from their experiences. An invaluable opportunity to form friendships and foster future collaborations with fellow young researchers from other parts of the world who share the same passion for research and desire to contribute to a better future.
I am excited to be able to contribute to the discussions from my professional experience as a paediatric dentist working in a hospital in Peru during the COVID-19 pandemic, and from my current role as a Master of Science (Epidemiology) student at the University of Melbourne, Australia.
I am convinced that being part of this forum will have a positive and invaluable impact on my career as a researcher and will broaden my perspective significantly.

Title: Effects of ultra-processed food consumption on oral health outcomes across all ages: a systematic review.
Background: Ultraprocessed-food consumption has been associated to a wide range of diseases including those related to oral health such as dental caries and periodontal disease. Studies have even found associations with other conditions such as malocclusion, tooth loss, and oral cancer. Unfortunately, despite the evidence supporting the harmful effects associated with the consumption of ultra-processed foods, there is still a scarcity of policies to address the problem at the population level.
Aim: To investigate the impact of increased ultra-processed food consumption in children, adolescents, and adults on oral health outcomes.
Significance: This systematic review will examine the effects of high consumption of ultra-processed foods on oral health outcomes across all ages, providing a comprehensive examination of data. Likewise, the focus will be on oral conditions that contribute significantly to the global burden of disease, which will provide valuable information on the spectrum of oral effects associated with high intake of ultra-processed foods. Finally, with the aim to summarise strong evidence, this review will include only case-control and cohort study.
