As a resident physician in Internal Medicine with a strong interest in medical oncology and palliative medicine, I am eager to join the Hong Kong Laureate Forum to engage with global scientific leaders and contribute to meaningful discussions on advancing cancer care. My experience as a sub-investigator in a Phase II trial evaluating Talazoparib in Asian metastatic breast cancer patients provided me with valuable insights into clinical research. I am at a pivotal point in my career, seeking new opportunities to morph into a clinician-scientist role where I can integrate cutting-edge research into clinical practice. I am interested in exploring innovations in precision medicine, as well as enhancing supportive and palliative care for cancer patients—an essential yet often overlooked aspect of oncology that significantly impacts quality of life.
The Forum’s mission to bridge generations of researchers strongly resonates with my aspirations. By participating in the Forum, I hope to gain exposure to transformative research, build collaborations with like-minded peers, and learn from pioneers in the field. This experience will not only expand my scientific perspective but also equip me to better address the complex needs of cancer patients, from diagnosis to survivorship and end-of-life care.

I was honored to receive the JPA PIDN Scholarship (2008) from Malaysia’s Public Service Department and the Excellent Service Award (2023) from the Malaysia Medical Council. My research experience includes serving as a sub-investigator in the TENOR trial, a Phase II study of Talazoparib in metastatic breast cancer. Earlier, I contributed to a clinical study on post-surgical pain management after knee replacements, analyzing pain outcomes and functional recovery. I am also certified in Good Clinical Practice (2022) and Mental Health First Aid (2012), reflecting my commitment to ethical, research and holistic patient care.
My research interest focuses on integrating precision oncology with palliative care to improve quality of life for cancer patients throughout their treatment journey. I'm particularly interested in developing patient-centered approaches that bridge the often abrupt transition from active cancer therapy to end-of-life care. This critical phase remains understudied despite its significant impact on patients and families. My clinical experience in oncology has revealed important gaps in how we address the evolving physical, emotional and spiritual needs of patients as treatment goals shift. I'm exploring ways to use biomarkers and clinical predictors to better anticipate symptom burden and tailor supportive care interventions. Another key interest lies in optimizing the timing of palliative care integration, moving beyond the current model of late-stage referral to create seamless transitions throughout the cancer continuum. Recognizing cultural influences on end-of-life care, I'm also examining how to adapt these approaches for Asian populations where discussions about terminal illness often face unique barriers. By combining molecular insights with holistic supportive care, I aim to develop more personalized strategies that address both cancer control and quality of life - ensuring patients receive care that aligns with their evolving needs and values at every stage of their illness.
